ISLAMIC CENTRE WITH MOSQUE

Beyond prayer, the center functions as a place of learning, dialogue, and social exchange, firmly embedded in its local context.

The Islamic Center with Mosque in Visoko is conceived as a multifunctional public complex that integrates spiritual, educational, cultural, and social functions into a coherent architectural whole. The project is designed to serve the wider community, extending its role beyond worship to become a place of gathering, learning, and everyday civic life.
The complex is organised into clearly articulated zones, accommodating a mosque, madrasa, administrative offices, a multipurpose hall, commercial and dining spaces, and a garage. This functional layering allows the center to operate throughout the day, supporting both religious activities and public use while maintaining clarity between sacred and supporting programs.
The architectural concept is based on a spatial transition from the profane to the sacred. Visitors are guided gradually from the surrounding urban context into a sequence of open and semi-open spaces, culminating in the inner courtyard and the mosque itself. This progression creates a calm and legible spatial narrative, where movement, light, and proportion contribute to a sense of inner focus, peace, and spiritual security.
Courtyards play a central role in the project, acting as places of pause, social interaction, and reflection. The use of greenery, water elements, and filtered light softens the architectural language and reinforces the contemplative character of the complex. Architectural elements such as perforated screens, controlled openings, and carefully shaped volumes establish a balance between openness and intimacy.
