A trio of contemporary Mediterranean villas on Korčula, reinterpreting traditional stone architecture through modern form, material clarity, and landscape-driven design.
The project consists of three identical villas positioned on an elevated plateau above the sea, approximately 2 km from the coastline, within a 100,000 m² site in the settlement of Morkan on the island of Korčula, Croatia. The villas are conceived as a calm residential ensemble, carefully placed within the landscape to preserve long-distance views, privacy, and a strong relationship with the natural surroundings.
The architectural concept draws from the Mediterranean building tradition, deeply influenced by the region’s history, geography, climate, and cultural heritage. These elements are reinterpreted through a contemporary architectural language, creating a dialogue between traditional stone houses with wooden roofs and a modern spatial identity.
Materiality plays a defining role in shaping the project’s character. Stone façades, timber elements, and pitched roofs reference local construction techniques, while precise detailing and clear volumes establish a contemporary expression. The composition balances solidity and openness, offering sheltered outdoor spaces, courtyards, and terraces that extend daily living into the landscape.
The villas are designed as highly comfortable living environments, defined by clear functional organisation, strong indoor–outdoor connections, and a restrained architectural form that enhances both the site and the broader landscape context.
