The project was recognised internationally by the BIG SEE organization and received the BIG SEE Award in 2017.
Rakovica House is a weekend residence located in a suburban area of Sarajevo. The project reinterprets the architectural tradition of Bosnia and Herzegovina through a contemporary lens, translating familiar forms, materials, and spatial logic into a modern residential composition.
The design is rooted in the archetype of the traditional house, abstracted and reassembled into a clear architectural language. Two primary volumes—compact cubic forms topped with pitched roofs—are composed to evoke the original domestic silhouette while establishing a distinct and contemporary identity.
Materiality plays a central role in reinforcing this dialogue between tradition and modernity. Stone, wood, and plaster are used as primary façade materials, grounding the building in local construction heritage while allowing for a refined and timeless architectural expression. Through proportion, material articulation, and restrained detailing, the house balances familiarity with innovation.
