WARTBERG

A compact urban ensemble of three residential buildings with integrated commercial spaces, structured around a shared green core and shaped by contextual constraints into a coherent, contemporary architectural identity.

The WARTBERG project is a residential and mixed-use development located at the intersection of Wartbergstrasse and Weinsbergerstrasse in Heilbronn, Germany, within a dense and highly dynamic urban context. The project comprises three above-ground buildings: House L, House 2, and House 3, organised around a shared green open space that forms the spatial core of the ensemble.

House L, designed in an L-shaped configuration and rising to five floors, plays a defining role in the overall composition and urban presence of the complex. All three buildings are unified by two continuous underground levels extending across the entire plot, accommodating parking and service functions while freeing the ground level for pedestrian use and greenery.

Due to the proximity of major traffic arteries, open terraces were not permitted on the façades facing the main road. This constraint informed a more introverted façade strategy, resolved through glazed loggias that ensure daylight, views, and privacy while maintaining acoustic protection.

The architectural expression is defined by a restrained material palette, clinker brick façades combined with pronounced vertical and horizontal glazing, creating a clear contrast between solid and transparent elements and reinforcing the visual connection between interior spaces and the surrounding city.
