ZAPRESIC SP

The project integrates high-performance building systems and bioclimatic strategies to minimise operational energy demand and ensure long-term efficiency.

The City Swimming Pool Zaprešić is designed as a new public and sports complex that activates the northern part of the city. The project consists of two main volumes: a transparent approach building with administration, wellness and fitness facilities, and a pool hall containing three indoor pools (50 × 25 m sports pool, learning and non-swimmer pools).

The architectural concept is based on contrast. A minimalist, fully glazed approach building with an extensive green roof forms a calm urban edge, while the pool hall is shaped as a sculptural volume with a dynamic roof inspired by local pitched-roof typologies. Both volumes are connected through a central public square and glazed corridors that bring daylight, greenery and natural ventilation into the interior.

Energy efficiency is a core design driver. The building features a high-performance thermal envelope (U = 0.1 W/m²K opaque, ≤1.0 W/m²K glazing), a 225.9 kWp photovoltaic system, 50–60 solar collectors for pool and domestic hot water heating, and heat pumps for heating and cooling, supported by fully zoned HVAC systems.
